Part 6 of 10: X-MEN UNLIMITED #45

This week's trilogy of books I don't really care about is rounded off with X-Men Unlimited #45.  Yes, that's the third issue in as many weeks, and the second one in a row to be written by Chuck Austen as an apparent overflow from his Uncanny X-Men series.

It's an Alpha Flight story, with two main aims: to do a story selling us on the heroism of Guardian, and resolve the pregnancy of Vindicator.  The moral of the story is that Guardian, who is a hero, is heroic.  He is especially heroic because he loves his wife and child.  Sure, whatever.

Is any of this supposed to surprise me?  This is really just the way you'd expect the character to react.  He's a nice chap.  His wife is a nice woman, who is perturbed by the idea that he might be dead.  His team mates like him, and would also prefer him not to be dead.  The villain is bad and creepy.  There's a bit where the birth of a baby is juxtaposed with the apparent death of Guardian so that they can do the circle of life routine.

Whatever.  It's competent, I suppose.  It makes sense.  But it's thoroughly uninspired.
