"Enemy of the State" continues in
Wolverine - and, by the way, if anyone can explain how
the hell the tie-in story from last week's New Thunderbolts
is supposed to fit with this storyline, I'd love to hear it.
Anyhow, we're still in Mark
Millar territory, and that means more fighting and...
well, mainly just more fighting. There's not a huge
amount that can really be said about these issues, but then
that's kind of the point. Wolverine was in need of
something like this, a well paced, well written straight-up
action brawl, to bring us back to the core of what makes the
character work. It's not necessarily what makes the
character interesting on a personality level, but we've spent
so long focussing on that side of him, a nice fight scene
seems long overdue.
This month's victim is Daredevil,
a choice which seems more than a little arbitrary until it
becomes apparent what HYDRA and the Hand are really up to.
Then it makes perfect sense. It's a nice little
reversal. Romita enjoys himself with some good
heavyweight fighting, and Millar seems finally to have found a
character where he can indulge himself without toppling over
into outright cynicism. Well, for the most part.
I wouldn't want every Wolverine
storyline to be like this. But some of them should be,
and we're long overdue for one. Especially one that does
it well.
