Part 7 of 8: WEAPON X #28

Finally, and for the last time, Weapon X.

This is the final part of the "Man and Monster" storyline, and I can only assume that somebody decided that would be a nice convenient place to stop the book.  Of course, it's nothing of the sort, because Weapon X is working on a longer-term plan.  Stopping the title here leaves two years of stories unresolved and a number of fairly prominent characters in limbo (meaning that some poor sod is going to have to disentangle them at some point).

This was never exactly my favourite book, to put it mildly, but this sort of cancellation strikes me as very short sighted.  Weapon X was not a high selling book, but it wasn't plummetting in sales or anything of that sort.  Writer Frank Tieri has been publicly lobbying for a few more issues to tie up the storylines and to be honest, he's got a point.  There seems no good reason why the book and its readers couldn't be provided with at least some form of resolution.

Instead, we have the final part of a Sabretooth storyline, a developing subplot about tension between Mr Sinister and Scalphunter, and what appears to be more slow-burn set-up for some Weapon Plus scheme or other.  All of which is academic because we'll never see it pay off.  Reviewing books in this situation is a somewhat pointless exercise; when the story is being cut off in mid stream, the quality of the individual issue is pretty much beside the point.  (For what it's worth, this one's okay.)

They're hinting at some kind of sequel project on the letters page.  At least it would resolve the plot, but there's really no good reason why that couldn't have been done in this title to start with.  This is not the way to thank the readers for following a storyline for two years.
