Part 5 of 9: WEAPON X #27

I can take Weapon X #27 pretty quickly, since it's the middle chapter of the final arc, and there'll be plenty of time to write about that when the next issue comes out.

Half of this issue is a flashback to Sabretooth's first encounter with Scalphunter during the Vietnam War.  It's a perfectly decent scene but one suspects that if Frank Tieri had known at the time of writing this issue that he only had one issue to go, he wouldn't be spending it on this kind of material.

The problem with reading Weapon X at this stage is that we now know it's dead with the next issue.  Since there's no conceivable way the book can resolve all its storylines in that time - and Tieri has been fairly open about the fact that it won't - it's difficult to get worked up about any of this.  Like it or not, Weapon X was clearly working on a longer-term plan of some sort, and it's rather unlikely that we'll find out where any of this was heading.

I find it hard to get worked up about any book in those circumstances, and Weapon X isn't exactly a favourite of mine to start with.  The issue itself is inoffensive, but by this point it all seems rather academic.
