Talking of rapidly cancelled books, Weapon X's cancellation has not yet been announced.  Let's all pray that this oversight is speedily rectified.

I say this every time I review a Weapon X story, but let's say it one more time.  There is nobody in this book to empathise with.  Everyone is an asshole who deserves to die, horribly.  Wild Child would be the possible exception there, but all he does is hang around and look maudlin, so who cares?

There is no earthly reason to care whether any of these people live or die.  If Tieri is going for shades of grey, he has missed the point.  This is just shades of virtual black.  These people wouldn't even qualify as interesting villains, let along tolerable protagonists.  There is no conflict here, no psychological depth, just a parade of lunatics wandering through a tedious non-plot being bitchy towards one another.

Remember that Sauron one-shot they did, which was largely devoted to establishing the idea that Sauron is mentally impaired?  Well, what the fuck is he doing with dialogue like this?  "Sauron confesses to being somewhat apprehensive, Jackson - if I'm not mistaken, I seem to recall your adamant distaste for similar actions conducted by Sabretooth."

When you put Sauron and his amazing yo-yo IQ in a scene with Brent Jackson, once again demonstrating his astonishing inability to maintain a single consistent character trait from one scene to another, my patience is exhausted.

At least when Mutant X was around, it had the decency to be entertainingly awful.  This is just tiresome.
