Uncanny X-Men is still off in the
Savage Land, and to be honest, there's not much to be said
about this issue.
The X-Men and the Savage Land Mutates fight
the evil dinosaur guys. Competent enough as a superhero
story, and at least it provides plenty of opportunities for
Alan Davis to show off. And the throwaway shot of a
dinosaur soldier lovingly showing off a photo of his unborn
kids - in other words, some eggs - is a nice touch.
On the other hand, it's the Savage Land,
and I've never been able to get that worked up about anything
that goes on down there. Other than a mildly interesting
subplot about Psylocke being accepted back into the team,
there isn't a tremendous amount here that feels important.
I might feel differently about this if I thought for a minute
that Rachel was going to stay as a dinosaur, but I don't.
You almost get the feeling Claremont is indulging himself with
a storyline that uses some of his pet characters while he
waits patiently for the crossover to start in June.
Oh, and because one mind-controlled
character is never enough, there's now a completely separate
mind control subplot where Ka-Zar is controlled by some minor
villain or other. Claremont's overuse of this device is
reaching laughable proportions, and he really needs to give it
a rest.
Basically, though, it's okay, and it's very
pretty, but largely forgettable.
