Part 4 of 8: SOLDIER X #11

From the "Oh, is that still going?" department, Soldier X is still in fill-ins - a rather pointless exercise considering that it's being axed after the next issue.

Quite honestly, I read this on the flight down to Bristol two days ago and I can't remember a damn thing about it.  Something about capital punishment and a ridiculously long timescale.  (Allow me to be picky and observe that if the story takes place over a period longer than 13 months, the first scene cannot take place "last August".)

A quick skim reminds me that this is a story about Nathan investigating his suspicion that a mutant girl sentenced to death for murdering her parents might have been framed.  The art's quite good, but the story takes way too long to get around to engaging the main character with the story.  The inciting event begins with the girl getting arrested; Nathan then spends over a year (and ten pages) dithering about it until an awkward piece of plotting results in the girl being sentenced to death on 24 hours notice and the second half happens.

It's alright, I suppose, and it looks okay.  But let's be honest, it's a book coasting towards cancellation with the character doomed to the purgatory of Weapon X.  By this point I might well be the only person still reading the book, and even I'm not really paying attention.
