Part 2 of 4: NYX #7

I never thought the day would come, but after all these years, NYX has finally finished.  Marvel are now trying to pass it off as a limited series, but it was originally announced as an ongoing title; the insane scheduling problems are presumably the real reason why it's fallen by the wayside.

In fairness, this final issue is double-sized, and contains 43 pages of material, which would have been enough to take the book up to issue #8.  On the other hand, on a monthly schedule, NYX ought to be up to issue #25 by now.  It's really pretty pathetic when a bunch of supposed professionals not only miss their advertised schedule, but miss it by over 200%, for no apparent reason other than simply not getting round to it.  The fact that the issue doesn't even carry an apology is less than impressive.

In this issue, the cast are all finally assembled and ready for further adventures.  No, really.  Seven issues, two years, and all we've achieved is an opening arc putting the cast together - for further adventures that will never see print.  What a complete waste of time.

Shame, in a way.  I'd have loved to see a writer come up with a way of using the girl who gets her powers from animal blood as a regular lead character.  ("Oh no, villains!  Quick, pass a kitten and a hammer.")

Okay, strictly speaking we do wrap up some of the ongoing story, as the lead characters finally fend off the threat of X-23's pimp who, by a happy coincidence, also turns out to be the guy who killed Kiden's father.  But that's about it.  Technically, as an issue in its own right, it's not too bad - but who can summon up enthusiasm for a hopelessly late comic setting up stories that will never appear?  Certainly not me.
