What can you say about Wolverine: Snikt! #3?

No, seriously.  What can you say about it?  This is a series which really exists solely to let Tsutomu Nihei do a Wolverine story in his style and where the plot is both slow and secondary.  Not a great deal happens in this series, and what does occur isn't desperately original.

In the future, mankind has almost been wiped out.  Only Wolverine can save them, thanks to a handy plot contrivance involving adamantium.  Cue technobabble about the importance of destroying orb-cores, a term which I can only imagine sounded better in Japanese.

It's not a bad story, merely a sketchy and okay one.  That's not necessarily a problem if you're buying the series for its real selling point: Nihei's art.  Despite the irritation of being interrupted for adverts every second page, he still does well when it comes to atmosphere and storytelling.  There's plenty to enjoy visually, although that's in the low-key sense rather than the "tons of explosions" sense.

It's okay considering the remit- fine if you enjoy Nihei's art enough to buy the series for that alone, but not worth bothering with if you're more interested in the story.

Rating: B+
