Part 4 of 7: WOLVERINE: NETSUKE #4

Um... right.

I'd been assuming that, at some point, Wolverine: Netsuke was going to get around to explaining the plot.  Evidently not.

Or maybe I'm being too negative.  After all, I slogged through the final issue once, skimmed it again to double-check that I couldn't make head nor tail of it, and then considered whether to sit down and re-read the entire series.

But I couldn't be bothered.  Because it's dull as ditchwater, to be quite honest.  So maybe if I'd done that I'd be able to make sense of the plot, but I just can't face it.

Okay... there's something about reincarnation and past lives, and the frost woman who's never really explained wants to get killed for some reason and...  uh...  something about that woman who might be Mariko inexplicably appearing in the present and killing the frost thing with a sword... and then her child reappears and... uh... so when were the netsukes planted by Mariko anyway?  And how?  What was the point of any of this?

Look, it's just gibberish, isn't it?  I'm not actually missing anything, it just doesn't make any sodding sense.  Couple that with a complete failure to get anywhere close to capturing the lead character's mannerisms and speech patterns, and the best to be said about it is that it is indeed very well painted.

But painfully boring and incoherent.

Rating: D
