Despite a promising start,
Hulk/Wolverine: 6 Hours has ended up as another one of
those miniseries that we'd probably like to see less of - ones
with no discernible point.
The high concept of this series, according
to the interviews, was that it would take place in "real
time". Of course, that's completely possible because
it's a comic, and comics are static relative to time.
What it actually meant was that we were going to get a "race
against time" story, replete with frequent reminders of the
clock.
As a device, that's okay, but it's hardly
going to carry a series on its own. Unfortunately,
that's pretty much what it's been asked to do. The
actual plot - Wolverine and the Hulk help a dying child who
must get the antidote in time, while a mad assassin is also on
his trail - isn't exactly classic stuff. Aside from
hinging on a huge great coincidence in both the lead
characters turning up in the story at all, none of it really
has anything to do with either of them. Oh, and the
villain turns out not to pose much of a problem for Wolverine
after all. Now there's a surprise.
It's readable but wholly unengaging stuff,
which does little with any of the characters and seems to
exist solely on the basis that people were likely to buy it.
