Part 2 of 6: CLAWS #3

Also finishing off this week is Claws, a three-part miniseries starring Wolverine and the Black Cat that seems to serve no function whatsoever.

Wolverine and the Black Cat are kidnapped by Arcade and run around an island for a bit, but they escape.  And.  That's.  It.

Seriously, this merits a three-issue miniseries?  This gets its own hardback collection?  Are they putting something in the water?

To be fair, it could have been an awful lot worse.  There's a certain throwaway charm in the way the two leads interact, and Joe Linsner's art takes a cartoony tone that makes the cheesecake elements a little more palatable.  But there's really nothing more to it than that - a bit of charm, and a hackneyed plot that you could fit on the back of a postage stamp.

I might be a little more forgiving if it wasn't for the fact that this is Wolverine, the most overexposed character in the Marvel Universe.  It's not as though there was a desperate need for more Wolverine material.  To justify a Wolverine miniseries, in my book, you need an actual idea.  This doesn't have one.

At best, this might have made an acceptable issue of X-Men Unlimited.  But it doesn't even come close to meriting a whole miniseries.
