STORY: "Falling from Grace" (22 pages)  Exodus and Holocaust's fight tears Avalon apart.  Cyclops, Phoenix and Colossus help everyone to escape.

What you need to know:
Magneto's orbiting Avalon space station is destroyed, finally putting an end to this chapter in the lives of Magneto, Exodus and the Acolytes.

In fact, everyone survives the crash (aside from Javitz, a generic Acolyte who is quietly despatched by Holocaust in the course of the issue).  Exodus and Holocaust just survive the plunge because they're so damn powerful.  Everyone else escapes - Colossus and the comatose Magneto are in one capsule, Phoenix and Skids get a chunk of space station and survive thanks to their powers, while Cyclops and the remaining Acolytes join forces to survive their own crash.

Cyclops was a villain in the Age of Apocalypse timeline, which is why Holocaust is surprised to see him on the other side.

Comments:
It's a big action story, but a pretty good one.  Of course, it always helps when some major and permanent changes take place - Avalon had been a fixture for a couple of years, so ripping it apart does come across as a major plot development.  (And this one actually stuck - Magneto, Exodus and the Acolytes all moved on to different storylines after this.)

Once again, Paul Smith provides guest art.  It's a well told story, which shows that just because the characters are all running around in total chaos, the actual storytelling doesn't have to get confusing.  The sense of Scott, Jean and Peter being stuck on a collapsing space station with a bunch of complete lunatics comes across well.  Issues #42-43 are a good couple of issues.
