Exiles #30 concludes the
three-part "Unnatural Instincts", and with it Chuck Austen's
fill-in run.
I'm not going to waste time
repeating what's been said before: this is not an Exiles story
but a dull exercise in sequelling Austen's Uncanny X-Men
werewolf arc. The werewolves weren't worth publishing
last time round, and they haven't improved any. You
would have thought that, by this point, Austen might have seen
fit to provide them with some sort of coherent agenda, but
evidently not.
There's some middling character
material at the end, where Austen belatedly realises that he
ought to do something with Nightcrawler and Nocturne.
Archangel ends up with a magic sword. The art is
perfectly pleasant. It's still riddled with plot holes -
can the creative team please make up their minds whether Alex
has a severe injury or not?
Mediocre.
