Also this week:
INCREDIBLE HULK #76 -
Christ. Is that it? Years of gratuitously
convoluted conspiracy plot... and that's it? The bad guy
was just being deliberately confusing in order to confuse the
Hulk? That's it? Blech. It's hard to believe
in retrospect how promising Jones' run seemed at the outset.
This is horrible. Stay right there. I'm just going
to get some rotten fruit to throw. What a mess.

PROMETHEA #31 - We're
nearly there. This is the penultimate issue. The
last few issues have been pretty effective in setting up the
apocalypse, but unfortunately we're back to lecture mode in
this one. For all that I have to admire the dazzling
technique of Alan Moore and JH Williams III, this book has
been hobbled time and again by its insistence on just telling
us things rather than dramatising them. If Moore doesn't
think the subject can be dramatised then why doesn't he just
write a damn textbook and be done with it? Still,
there's no denying the incredible quality of the art.

ULTIMATE ELEKTRA #1 -
Despite the title, this is a sequel to the Ultimate
Daredevil & Elektra miniseries, and it has just as much
Daredevil as Elektra. Or rather, just as much Matt
Murdock as Elektra, since like the previous series, this is
set in pre-origin days. I could have sworn the previous
book ended with Elektra going on the run, but it seems we're
toning that down in order to have a workable sequel.
Pretty good, nonetheless, and Mike Carey's script is in
keeping with the tone set by Rucka's miniseries.
Salvador Larroca returns on art (yes, he's doing two books a
month), and while these quieter character stories don't strike
as the best way to use him, it certainly makes for a good
looking comic. B+
There's a new Article 10 on
Monday at
Ninth Art.
Next week, Gambit gets his fourth series.
Jubilee gets her first. Exiles #52 begins a
new storyline. And it's guest artist time in Uncanny
X-Men #448. Hmm.
