Also this week:

HUMAN TARGET #10 - Nobody seems to buy this book, so it deserves a plug, especially since this is a self-contained issue.  So if you aren't buying it already - and statistically, that's highly probable - go and try this one.  This issue, Christopher Chance helps out a friend who's broken out of prison in order to put his affairs in order.  Kind of.  I could see the twist coming, but it doesn't matter - this is still great fun.  A-

LUCIFER #50 - Anniversary issue, which means an origin story illustrated by P Craig Russell.  It's the construction of the Silver City and the rebellion of Lucifer from his point of view.  The major innovation here is that Lucifer isn't just rebelling against God.  Much like the human race, God has created the world and pretty much left the angels to get on with it.  They're doing their best, based on their instructions... but at the end of the day, it's really just their interpretation of what God might have wanted them to do, if he'd expressed a view on it.  And some of them are more zealous than others.  Nice little twist on the story, and a good issue.  A

REMAINS #1 - New series from IDW Publishing by Steve Niles and Kieron Dwyer.  Basically, it's Dawn of the Dead with added nuclear annihilation.  Ridiculously over the top B-movie stuff, which isn't really my sort of thing.  But if it sounds appealing to you, give it a shot.  The art's very good (especially if you like vertical lines, of which there are tons), and it's got a nicely cynical sense of humour.  B+

There's a new Article 10 on Monday at Ninth Art.

Next week, the big one - Astonishing X-Men #1.  Does Marvel have something to replace Grant Morrison as the X-books' top attraction?  Also available in two variant covers, if that sort of thing gives you a thrill.

Brian Vaughan takes over Ultimate X-Men with issue #46.  Could be decent.  Meanwhile, Mystique #15 continues Sean McKeever's first storyline, Weapon X #24 continues "War of the Programs", and Peter Milligan fans can enjoy both Wolverine/Punisher #3 and X-Statix #23.

And brace yourself - NYX #4 is apparently shipping!
