Also this week:
DEEP SLEEPER #4 - God,
that was quick. It's only been a couple of weeks since
issue #3, hasn't it? Anyway, this is the finale of
Hester and Huddleston's mildly surreal astral projection
miniseries. The plot's become a little more linear as
the series progressed, and as with most fantasy stories of
this sort, there's a slight hint of the creators getting to
make up the ground rules as they go along. A strong
series, though, and worth a look when the inevitable trade
paperback comes out. A-
TOUCH #6 - Final issue of
the DC Focus book, which is a shame since it was starting to
hit its stride. The frustrating thing about DC Focus is
that the books were really pretty good - but they proved
completely unmarketable to the direct market audience, and
it's hard to see who else they were going to be sold to.
I'd like to think that Hard Time might stick around,
but if I'm being honest, I know that's completely unrealistic.
Touch, the story of a man trying to make a living out
of a superpower which only allowed him to give more
interesting superpowers to other people, was a nice
little set-up. It deserved better. B+
Last week's Article 10 is still
up at
Ninth Art.
Next week, Nightcrawler gets his own ongoing
series. Astonishing X-Men is up to issue #5.
Excalibur #5 begins the second arc, "Food Fight."
Mystique #19 begins the Quiet Man storyline.
Rogue #3 continues her homecoming. Uncanny X-Men
#449 ties up the Viper thing. And Weapon X #28
wraps up the series.
