UNCANNY X-MEN #496 -
Hmm. An entire scene with no apparent point, other
than to show that Cyclops doesn't know what a Celestial is?
Hmm. Anyway, this is the second part of the downtime
storyline, with half the team wandering around Russia, and
the other half dealing with a refreshingly low-level
supervillain who wants to turn San Francisco back to the
sixties. Mike Choi's art is back up to his usual
standards after a slightly shaky effort last month, and this
is thoroughly pleasant stuff. A-
X-FORCE #2 - This, on
the other hand... I mean, if you're in the market for
a grim, violent series about some of the X-Men fighting bad
guys in low lighting, well, this does it adequately enough.
It's not a premise I find particularly intriguing, and the
whole thing seems to take itself far more seriously than a
story about the Purifiers deserves. Mind you, Clayton
Crain does do a lovely version of the old eighties character
who shows up at the end, suggesting that he might be one of
the few artists who can pull him off. C
