Also this week:
LORE #3 - I'm really
starting to enjoy this book - a mixture of comics and
illustrated prose which puts Ashley Wood's erratic visuals to
enormously effective use. Plus, it's often very funny
(particularly the diary segments), and it comes as a pleasant
surprise to see an interesting plot emerging. The title
seems to have gone largely unnoticed, and admittedly this
isn't the best place to start - you'd be better going back to
the beginning. But it's a good book and worth plugging.
A-
THOR #80 - The first
Michael Oeming issue, and a prologue to Avengers Disassembled.
Oeming immediately sets about turning the book upside down and
slaughtering some long-standing supporting characters.
I'm not really won over by it. It seems dreadfully
rushed, and at times it's more like reading a precis of the
story than reading the story itself. Still, some lovely
art by Andrea DiVito, and at least the plot is hitting the
ground running. B-
ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #6
- End of the first arc, and this is really a bit
underwhelming. Everyone stands around talking at each
other and waiting for a climax to happen. It doesn't, so
they have a fight and go home. All rather underwhelming,
and you'd expect better from Bendis and Millar. A
disappointing end to the first arc, which ends up as a decent
beginning in search of a final act. B-
There's a new Article 10 on Monday at
Ninth Art.
Next week, sanity returns, as the numbe of X-books
becomes almost reasonable. District X #2
introduces Bishop to the area. Emma Frost #12
finishes off the second storyline. And Ultimate X-Men
#47 should have more on Mr Sinister. Oh, and a couple of
X-related characters also crop up in Identity Disc #1,
but I'm not treating that as an X-book.
